Childbirth classes are so important to achieve a positive birth experience. Please don’t miss out on this important piece of your baby’s journey.

Sarah has over 11 years of experience teaching childbirth classes. Teaching in an online environment comes very easily to me and has been such a fun change of pace!

We offer three childbirth class experiences:

  1. Zoom Classes: Offered both privately or with a small group.

  2. In-home private childbirth classes: Taught in the comfort of your own home and around your schedule. (This is for Massachusetts residents only.)

  3. Group classes: Taught with 2-5 couples in Stow, MA during a set time.

COURSE CONTENT

Introduction, Exercises & Nutrition
This first class is where we get to know each other and why we have chosen this path. Questions and concerns are answered and some fears are put to rest. You will learn some basic pregnancy exercises to prepare you for labor, birth and postpartum. We will discuss good nutrition during pregnancy, help you to evaluate your diet and suggest ways to improve it if necessary. This includes nutrition for baby, so we'll start our discussion on breastfeeding too. We will end every class with a relaxation practice. The goal is to keep you healthy and low risk!

Pregnancy & Medication
Our bodies go through many changes during pregnancy. We will cover what they are and how to handle common pregnancy discomforts in a natural way. We will also start discussing your birth choices.

You will also be learning about the different types of medications typically offered to a laboring woman. You will learn the risk and benefits of each as well as when they can be medically necessary. We will also talk about the importance of the coach (birth partner).

Stages of Labor
First stage is your labor. From the first contraction up until you feel the urge to push. We will talk about what to expect physically and emotionally during this stage, when it is time to leave for your birth location and what your coach's role is during this time. Second stage is when you are pushing. You will learn pushing positions and techniques, what to expect physically and emotionally and how your coach will be helping during this time. We will also cover third stage and the golden hours.

Birth Plans
You will learn how do put a clean, easy to read birth plan together. We will be discussing priorities and what your choices are. We will review the stages of labor and ]also have a labor rehearsal!

Potential Complications and Postpartum Preparation
We will cover various complications including cesarean surgery discussing: how to avoid these problems if possible, how to evaluate whether it is necessary to intervene, and how to handle interventions that become necessary. We also cover information on taking care of yourself after your baby is born.

Final Review
This class is all about advanced coaching techniques dealing directly with the challenge of handling first stage labor. We will continue with labor rehearsals and also focus on how to be prepared for the second stage of labor (the pushing stage), third stage of labor (delivering the placenta and those first two golden ours with your baby) and how to take care of yourself for the next couple of months. Coaches will learn how to handle the challenges they will face in labor. Emergency childbirth will be discussed, just-in-case the baby comes before you get where you're going.

Breastfeeding & New Baby Care
Newborn care, mothering, fathering and how to help your baby when they cry are just a few topics will we cover. You will also learn how to get your baby latched, what the breastfeeding holds are and what to expect from your milk supply.
